Disappointing that it's been days since I updated this blog, but I guess I've had good reason. The last time I updated was halfway through my waking nights, and I made it through them, somehow, but I was just too exhausted to write anything coherent or interesting, so I decided not to waste the time. Then I was supposed to go to Poland, but I... didn't.
I was going to, really. And I was really excited. But when, on Thursday night, I sat down to look at the trains and such, I discovered that the train ride from Lodz (where I got my cheap flight into) and Krakow (where I actually wanted to go) was 9 hours. Also, I didn't have a place to sleep on Saturday night. That would've been okay, because I would have just slept on the train to Krakow, but then I realized that I would have only had Sunday night in Krakow, because I would have had to leave sometime in the evening on Monday for the nine hour train ride back to Lodz. So I would basically have spent two of my three nights not sleeping, on a train. And not understand anything I read or heard.
So I took a pass. Disappointing, yes, because I'd really psyched myself up for walking around Krakow and seeing oncentration camps, but the whole holiday would have been inordinately stressful and tiring, so I decided to do something that would definitely be enjoyable and restful. So I came to Galway.
All of the arranging at the last minute for Galway was actually a big pain in the ass too, but finally I'm here. I took the 9:30 bus to Galway this morning, and now ito's 4:06pm and I'm sitting in my hostel (which has wi-fi!) trying to talk myself into going out and doing something. I'm planning on forcing myself to leave the hostel around five or half-five, walking the square to look for something for dinner, eventually deciding inevitably on Supermac's, and taking lots of artistic pictures. Then maybe have a point. I had an idea for a short story, and I really want to force myself to write it while I'm here. I think Jeanne would publish it, if only because of the first line.
So that's what I'm going to do with the rest of my night tonight. Tomorrow I'm getting on a tourbus to and through Connemara and to Kylemore Abbey, which will hopefully drop me at my hostel (in the middle of nowhere) for two nights of peace and quiet. And wi-fi. (Why did I bother leaving Rockgrove?) On Tuesday I'm going to get up late, hire a bike and ride around forever, go to the beach (although I just realized I forgot my bathing suit), take a hot shower, then a long nap through the afternoon/early evening, have dinner and a drink, and then write. I'm way looking forward to it.
I plan on updating this further tonight, but I should take advantage of being awake and inclined to go out.
