So I'm officially in South Korea. The local time is 11:34am at Kangwon University in Chuncheon, and I have to be downstairs in 15 minutes to head to the cafeteria for lunch (I'm a little nervous about the food), but I thought I'd use these minutes to quickly blog about my first few experiences in South Korea.
The flight actually ended up being way less horrible than I thought it might be. I found the big group of other east-coast ETAs at the gate and started to get to know a few people, then we boarded. We ended up sitting on the runway an extra 40 or so minutes waiting for clearance to take off. The seat did not, as Dad had suggested might be the case, have an outlet for my laptop, but that ended up being okay, because it had a pretty great selection of on-demand movies. I watched The Number 23, Disturbia, and 300 one and a half times, and was satisfied. I feel like it was a 13 hour flight, and those movies don't add up to more than five or six hours, but I don't remember being awake and miserable that much (although I was definitely awake and miserable sometimes), so I must have gotten at least five hours of sleep or so, which is a miracle for me.
Arrived at Inchon, got through immigration without any problems and discovered, to my immense relief, that my luggage was right there waiting for me. We then waited another hour or so in the airport before getting on the bus for the roughly 2 hour ride to Chuncheon, and that was when it started to get interesting. We were informed that at the dorms we would not be able to flush the toilet paper, because it would definitely clog up the toilet and it would explode/overflow. We're just supposed to throw our used toilet paper in a garbage can beside the toilet. Yuck!
Okay, time passed a lot quicker than I thought it would, so I have to go, but I'll write more later. I'm unpacked and settled in, with a nice roommate, and I'm off to a half-day of programming and stuff. Then, a blog update and early to bed.
