13/30: I hate Korean people.

So I'm making this quick entry just in case I don't get home before midnight. I made it to Daegu alive, and am sitting in Tony's really nice one-bedroom apartment. We're getting ready to go to noraebang (singing room). More later. :)

---

Well, I'm glad I went ahead and made that post when I did, or I would have been out of luck, because we didn't get home until after midnight, and I was in no state to blog, that's for sure. It's morning now, but I'm just updating this post because I don't want to leave such a weak one. I was lamenting that I couldn't possibly follow my normal routine while on vacation, wondered how that boded for my training for November, but then I realized... Vacations, or days when things simply can't go as planned, are part of life, so they're just something I need to accept. But, I can make a promise that I won't schedule any vacations like that during November. Things will come up, and I will have to adjust, but I'll just have to stay home all four weekends until my novel is finished. I can make that choice, and that's reassuring to me.

So highlights from yesterday, in a bulleted list, so that I can move on to the rest of my to-do list, which includes a big long run and finishing an essay I've been putting off all week, and in fact haven't even started yet.

1. Bus trip to Daegu was surprisingly easy to navigate, and relatively pleasant. Started off slightly annoying because I got to the bus station at 8, and then the buses were sold out until 11:40, but once I got on the bus, things were fine. The seats on express buses are comfortable, I got the single seat on the right side, and I managed to sleep a bit. The lady behind me was a little annoying, but alas. Despite my co-teacher's dire warnings, there wasn't a traffic jam at all. It was a smooth 3 and a half hour trip. And the countryside that I saw when I got out on the halfway break was really pretty. Not terribly different from the countryside in my area, but pretty. The weather was pretty nice yesterday too, just a bit cool, until it started raining in the evening.

2. The best thing about Daegu so far is that I've been to not one but TWO Subways. Not subways, although Daegu does have one of those, but Subway. Eat fresh. Ham on wheat bread. It was like heaven. I can't imagine how thin I'd already be if we had a Subway in Naju, where I could get a healthy delicious sandwich whenever I wanted to go out to eat. But alas. It was a nice treat.

3. Drank some soju last night, although thankfully not too much. Went to noraebang, which was fun, but frustrating because there was no search function, so I had to pore over the poorly organized song books, reading Korean, to find the songs I wanted to sing. This was a bit much for my slightly alcohol-addled brain. And super strangely, a song that I'd wanted to sing, but that I didn't type in, randomly came on when I picked up the microphone. So weird. There's thousands of songs, but this one happened to come on? It was pretty creepy, actually.

That was about it for day one in Daegu. I'll write about day two later. I'm super disappointed, because I forgot to bring my camera, but I guess now that I know how easy it is to get here, I could come any time, hypothetically.
