off-topic

A quick post while I'm waiting for my fifth period class to start, with a little explanation. I majored in creative writing in college, and what I want more than anything for my future is to be a high school teacher and a novelist. Some of you may have heard of NaNoWriMo, which is short for National Novel Writing Month, and takes place in November. It's a huge awesome event that loads of people do, wherein you try to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. (If you're interested in writing, you should check it out. It's really neat.) The focus, obviously, is on quantity of production... which is good for me, considering getting started and actually hammering through is my downfall when it comes to writing. I've been out of college for a little over a year now, and without deadlines I've managed to write nothing but blog entries. A lot of blog entries.

So I'm currently in training for NaNoWriMo, because I'm determined to complete it this year. And my training consists of forcing myself to sit down every single day at the same place and time (Dunkin Donuts, 8pm) and writing. I'm not cheating by starting early. Actually, I usually just use the time to blog in my other blog, about my life as a teacher in Korea and everything else (except weight loss). It's called love edifies, if you're interested, and I'm trying to write in it every single day during September as part of my training.

I used to blog, and read blogs, at school, but as part of my crusade to simplify and calm my life, I've recently started only working at school. I know-- suck, right? But if I don't use my time well and lesson plan at school, then I'm super-stressed out about not doing it, and it ruins my free time. So this is a good system for me, despite the fact that it wipes out most of the time I used to spend reading, blogging, and commenting. It leaves me calmer and happier. So the point of this ramble is that I'll blog here when I have a free moment, like during my lunch break, but until September 30, the bulk of my blog time will we spent at the other one.

Actually, that's not quite true, now that I think about it. I'll be blogging here every Friday, which is my lightest day for lesson planning, the weigh-in day for Hot for the Holidays, and my chance to play catch-up and check in. Ha, tricked you. This post had almost nothing to do with bikinis!

Until now... I'm actually doing really well with the new lifestyle since coming back to Korea. I've got about two weeks worth of stars in my calendar, which I earn by doing my scheduled workout. I feel a little more in control of my snacking urges, which has meant a decrease in my sweet intake, despite spending 3 hours a day at Dunkin Donuts. And I'm eating more vegetables and protein, and less white rice, at every meal. Not much has been happening on the scale, but I know it's just a matter of time before I wake up one morning topless. Muffin-topless, that is. (Just seeing if you were still reading.)

I hope you're doing well too! :) And I'll see you on Friday~

Can I just say I'm a wee bit bitter that you have a Dunkin Donuts in Korea and I have none here in West Virginia??? Argh. I love their toasted almond iced coffee (no cream, one splenda).

My sister took part in NaNoWriMo last year and she had a blast! I don't think she finished her novel, but she had a lot of fun trying.

I think the fact that you are in NaNoWriMo training is great -- just like training for a 5k. :) Do you have any story ideas yet?
